If AI makes great marketing so simple, where is everybody?

There's a difference between something made with AI and something made by AI. The flood of AI-generated slop has convinced a lot of people that AI can't be used to make anything genuinely good. That's the wrong conclusion. The real question isn't whether AI can produce quality creative. It's whether the person using it has taste, judgment, and something worth saying.

There are decades of research supporting one of the most under-utilized strategies in advertising: cute animals. The Charmin Bears. The Geico Gecko. The Duolingo Owl. They capture attention, generate positive emotional associations, and are remembered far longer than most other creative approaches. And yet, almost nobody does it. Too many brands take themselves too seriously.

Small brands have always known the fundamentals matter. They weren't ignoring brand building because they didn't believe in it. They were ignoring it because it was unaffordable. The 150-year-old synthetic fertilizer brand maintained market share not because its product was better, but because no challenger could afford the creative to compete.

AI changed that equation. Not by replacing the creative team, but by giving talented people tools that amplify what they can produce. This ad was made by Dave Spector. He didn't open an app and say “write me an opera jingle.” He literally recorded himself singing, then used AI to slowly shape it into what you see here. He wrote the music and meticulously edited the entire video over many hours.

MitoGrow is a smaller brand with an incredible product. Brands like this typically lacked the resources and budgets to produce high quality ads. The lack of quality video made it impossible to compete on premium channels. AI, in the hands of talented creatives, has changed this dynamic. This would not have been an option two years ago.

Emotional advertising isn't what you think it is.

We tend to overcomplicate “emotional advertising.” We think it only applies to Super Bowl tearjerkers and heartwarming holiday spots. But emotion is often much smaller. A feeling of reassurance. A moment of amusement. A character you can't forget. If the audience feels something, they remember it. And if they remember it, you've improved your chances of being chosen.

Surface-level resemblance doesn't create connection the way storytelling does. A bland, literal message from someone who looks just like your audience will rarely cut through. But a story told with characters who embody real emotion will.

The ads on this page don't just show products. They tell stories. They use characters, humor, music, and emotion to build the kind of mental availability that turns unknown brands into ones people actually remember. That's been the playbook for decades. What's new is who gets to run it.
